Hop Run

Hop Run, our friendly, laid-back 10K has a new start line for 2026 at the historic Aaron House in Penicuik. The route now takes in 3 castles as it winds it’s way from Penicuik through Roslin Glen and back to Stewart Brewing via Bilston Woods.  The 5K version of the course also has a new start line at Roslin Glen Country Park.

Both routes make their way on great woodland riverside trails through the spectacular Roslin Glen before emerging blinking into the daylight at Stewart Brewing’s Taproom courtyard for a fantastic post-race party with live music, beer and pizza!

6th JUNE 2026

10K – Six waves from 11:00am until 2.20pm

5K  – One wave at 3.00pm

After meeting at Stewart Brewing’s incredible HQ in Loanhead, we will whisk you by coach to the beautiful Aaron House for the 10K or the meadow of Roslin Glen Country Park for the 5K to start your trail run through the beautiful valley of the North Esk River.

You will pass tumbling waterfalls, still river pools, quiet natural forests and atmospheric ruins of the area’s surprising industrial past, before emerging at Stewart Brewing HQ to celebrate your achievement over a beer (the first one’s on us!). Along with your beer you will also receive a medal in the form of a branded bottle opener and a custom event t-shirt (if you want it!).

Charity Partner –

The National Deaf Children’s Society

This year our event will support the National Deaf Children’s Society, a UK charity dedicated to creating a world without barriers for deaf children and their families. They provide vital support, resources, and advocacy to help every deaf child achieve their full potential.

Money raised will be donated to NDCS, Stewart Brewing’s local charity partner. Simply make a donation when you sign up, and all contributions will be passed directly to the charity.

We’re Having A Greener Hop Run

  • Feed station cups are our biggest source of waste so we’re stopping using them. There will be no cups at feed stations. Please bring your own reusable vessel or we’ll have some available in registration for a small fee. You will need to carry this with you and use it on the course if you wish to take water at the feed station.
  • T-shirts: some of you love them and some of you don’t. If you’re the latter, we’ll now give you the option to donate the cost of your event tee to our run charity, The National Deaf Children’s Society. You can make this selection when you sign up by choosing No T-Shirt. Your entry cost will remain the same and we’ll donate the equivalent value to The National Deaf Children’s Society.

We appreciate your help in ensuring our events make minimal impact on the environment.

The Route

You will register at Stewart Brewing in the Bilston Glen Industrial Estate at Loanhead, we will then transport you (in waves) to the start line. Choose your wave time when you enter.

The 10K(ish) run will start from Aaron House in Penicuik and the 5K(ish) run will start from Roslin Glen Country Park. Both courses take you on a fully marshalled and waymarked trail following the North Esk River to Bilston Wood before returning you to Stewart Brewing for a well earned Beer.

HQ and Parking

  • Parking available within Bilston Glen Ind Estate, 26a Dryden Rd, Loanhead EH20 9LZ

Please park considerately and do not block road junctions. Please do not park on either side of busy roads as this causes issues with the coaches taking you to the start line maneuvering out of the industrial estate

We suggest you park prior to Stewart Brewing as this area will be busy with runners and coach arrivals/departures

Maps and Athlete Guide

Your athlete guide will be displayed below approximately 2 weeks before the event. Please take the time to read this as it will answer most if not all of your questions.

Pay particular attention to the registration and Bus Times, and make sure you don’t miss your start time.

What Kind of Trainers are best?

This is off road running and can get very muddy in places, we would recommend trail shoes.

This event is not suitable for those who want to bring their dog along. There are loads of Canicross races we suggest you enter one of those instead.

What is the exact route?

Full route information will be published on our website around 2 weeks prior to the event. Some routes require land owner permission and cannot be recced prior to the event, we therefore do not publish the route in advance of the events.

Do I have to get on the bus to the start line?

You will need to register at Stewart Brewing on the morning of the event so please use the bus rather than your own transport to the start, that way we know where everyone is and no one misses their start time.

Will the Tap Room be Open?

The tap room will be open when you finish, serving delicious pizzas and award winning beer, 2 good reasons for a sprint finish!

Can I defer?

Unfortunately we are unable to offer deferrals, for information on refund options please see Terms & Conditions – Durty Events.

Can I have a refund?

For information on refund options please see Terms & Conditions – Durty Events.
