Run around the Beautiful Bowhill Estate (and Beyond)

Join us for the inaugural Durty Trail Weekender, a celebration of off-road running in one of the most scenic corners of the Scottish Borders. Starting from the stunning Bowhill Country House, this event offers something for everyone — from seasoned trail runners chasing elevation to newcomers looking for an unforgettable run.

Choose your challenge:

  • 5K Durty Dash –  Start Time 11am – Perfect for beginners or families looking for a taste of trail running amidst Bowhill’s forest paths. Ages 12+ can enter and those aged 5-11 can run with an adult supervisor

  • 10K Weekend WandererStart Time  10am – A scenic loop mixing forest tracks and open hill views — a true Borders experience. For those aged 16+

  • 25K Hill HopperStart Time 9am – A testing route with climbs, descents, and panoramic vistas for those seeking a serious challenge. For those Aged 16+

  • 50K Hills & HorizonsStart Time 7am –A challenging 50K across mixed terrain, with sustained climbs, long miles, and expansive views across the Borders. For those Aged 18+

With well-marked routes, friendly marshals, and the welcoming atmosphere the Borders are famous for, this is a day to lace up your trail shoes and soak in the views, the Durty Trail Weekender promises an unforgettable outdoor adventure for all.

Course

These events are either entirely off-road or mostly off road, so you will need a pair of trail shoes, road shoes are not a good idea. The routes will take in the best the Bowhill Estate and the surrounding Border Hills have to offer.

There will be a mixture of hard packed paths and muddy trails with challenging climbs and exhilarating descents.

Courses may be subject to change depending on weather conditions in the lead up to the event.

Please make sure you arrive in time for registration as volunteers on registration move out on to the course and so are unable to register you after the registration closing time.

Bowhill Country Estate

Nr Selkirk, TD7 5ES From Selkirk Rugby Club, head towards the town centre and take the right hand turn onto the B709 (towards Ettrickbridge) for approx 3.5miles. At Colins Brig, turn right and follow the road towards the Bowhill Farm office, signs will direct you to the car park from there. 

Car Parking will be in a field, or on hard-standing and verges a few minutes walk from Race HQ.

  • Camping is included free of charge for Saturday night only at Selkirk Rugby Club – this is in conjunction with the Selkirk Gravel Classic on Sat 8th August. This is about 1 mile away from Bowhill House. 
  • Camping facilities are basic level only  i.e. space to camp, access to water, showers, and toilets)
  • The bar at the Rugby Club will be open Sat night and there will be live  music. 

FAQs

What should I wear?

It is summer but who knows what the weather will do so bring something warm to wear for before and after the race. For the race wear run clothing suitable for the weather on the day and make sure you are in your trail shoes, on-road trainers are not advised.

Do I need full waterproofs?

You may want to bring a waterproof jacket and extra layer just in case the weather gets chilly. For the longer races mandatory kit will be advised in your race briefing

Can I run with my dog?

Unfortunately, dogs are not permitted to run with you at these events.

What is the exact route?

Full route information will be published on our website around 2 weeks prior to the event. Some routes require land owner permission and cannot be recced prior to the event, we therefore do not publish the route in advance of the events.

Can I defer?

Can I change distance?

If the event you have entered has more than 1 distance option available then it is possible to transfer to another distance, this must be done at least 2 weeks in advance of the event and may be subject to a small admin fee. Please see Terms & Conditions – Durty Events for more information.

The Bowhill Grounds & Adventure Park pass offers access to the Grounds, Adventure Playground and Woodland Trails. making it ideal for exploring the estate. Purchase with your entry for Sunday 9th August only £7 for adults, £5 for kids and under 3’s go free.
