St Ninian’s Duathlon

Medium Course

Durty Events is excited to bring to you a brand new pair of events – the St Ninian’s Duathlon Series. From the scarred landscape of an open cast mine, a new landscape has emerged and we invite you to run and ride it with us.

St Ninian’s is an incredible site that’s perfectly sculpted for off-road for racing. The venue is easily accessible from the M90, just north of Dunfermline, and is less than a 1 hour drive from Glasgow and 30 minutes from Edinburgh, Fife and Perth.

Run and cycle the four corners of earth all in one day.  Durty Events brings you the St Ninian’s Duathlon.

If you have been taking part in our events for a while you may remember the Bowhill Duathlon series in the Scottish Borders, it was proper back-to-basic Durty, muddy fun on challenging climbs and interesting single-track. This is shaping up to be more of the same.

Taking place in the scenic St Ninian’s Open Cast Mine Site where a series of large mounds represent the four corners of the earth where Scots have settled and left their mark.  The Scottish World – The Fife Earth Project have created a striking, iconic, sculpted landscape and we invite you to explore it with us.  We will take you around the earth and up the “Walnut Whip”, all of this in striking distance of the M90. Whether you are out for the win or just out for the day, we welcome you to our duathlon series. This will be a Run-Bike-Run event with the Medium course (6th April) winning time being around 60mins and the short course (March 9th) winning time expected to be around 40mins.

FAQ: How long are the courses?.

We get this question a lot!. The ‘Short’ races have a winning time of approx. 40mins (split approx. 50%/50% between bike and run). The ‘Medium’ races have a winning time of approx. 60mins (again, approx. 50/50 between bike and run). We deliberately do not talk about distances as this is a pretty meaningless measure off-road. Other factors (surface, mud, steepness, single/doubletrack trails etc.) are all more influential.

So, if you’re a speedy racing snake, you’ll be finishing in around 40/60mins. If you’re back of the pack, that will generally be 80/120mins. Everyone else is somewhere in between.

Join us for the Complete Duathlon Series

Kick off 2024 in style with a series of 4 Duathlon Events taking place in 2 stunning locations, we will have 2 events at the picturesque Bowhill Estate near Selkirk in the Scottish Borders and 2 events at the stunning St Ninians site near Dunfermline

These relaxed events are open to all and the format is usually Mountain Bike followed by Trail Run, sometimes the other way round or possibly Run-Bike-Run. What the races always are though is muddy, a bit hilly and a lot of fun. Trust us, Bowhill & St Ninians will CERTAINLY not disappoint in any of these departments!.

They’re very newcomer friendly and relaxed, but can also offer a stiff challenge if you’re wanting to try and go quick.  We welcome newbies to internationalists, triathletes, runners, bikers, and people who just like to do ‘stuff’. Come and have a go. These events will keep your racing/training motivation going over the long winter months.
